The purpose of this paper is to find out if there are any simple solutions to attract an increased use of Public transportation in a smaller town in Sweden. Simple solutions are measures that can be taken within the current budget, and which do not require large investments and extensive political decisions. In order to search for possible solutions I needed to find out which factors and attitudes that determine why people choose Public transportation and peoples? traveling habit. I have made a survey study of satisfaction and attitudes among the consumers of a Public transportation company in Växjö; Länstrafken Kronoberg.

The purpose of this study is to examine the accessibility with Public transportation in the case of the Umeå Region in northern Sweden. This is done by GIS network analysis where both access to transit stops, as well as access by public transport from stops to destinations is examined. An accessibility index is created from transit frequency and travel times to destinations. The results is compared with population register data to calculate what shares of the population has which levels of accessibility with Public transportation. In the Umeå Region there are different levels of accessibility by public transport for different parts of the region, where transit stops in the most densely populated areas has the highest levels of accessibility, as well as stations along the railroads.

On the behalf of the European commission suggestions were made on how to increase the usage of Public transportation in cities in Europe. A suggestion on how to make Public transportation more popular was to use more emotions when marketing Public transportation. However, according to theory emotional marketing is best suited for products that have a more hedonic character which Public transportation does not usually have. The aim of this report was to investigate if emotional marketing could have a more positive effect on the attitude toward Public transportation than less emotional marketing. Ads for the metro in Stockholm were made and it was tested to what degree they conveyed positive emotions.

In this paper we take a look at digital applications to help the user with Public transportation. The main goal was to evaluate the problem a user can face when aiming to use the Public transportation system, and to create a application for Apple Iphone that can enhance and help the user, no matter if he is familiar with the local Public transportation system, or if he is less familiar with it. The aim was that the user wouldnt need any previous knowledge to be able to use our application. We combined Location-Based Services with Realtime-travelinformation and trip planning to examine if this combination could make both of the two different user-groups satisfied. To understand the problematics a user faces when approaching the Public transportation-scene, Scenario-Based Design is evaluated as a method to grasp this problem.

As a result of a successful human development around the world an extensive urbanization of societies are taking place that are networked in various ways. In these networks, increased travel and digitization are central where individuals and organizations converge in a constant and immediate wireless and mobile technology flow. An example of this is Stockholm and its Public transportation company Storstockholms Lokaltrafik (SL). Although most participate in most of the network society, SL is struggling with an audience that seldom travel with them: families with children. We intended to find out how the communication of SL´s digital platforms could get families to travel more with Public transportation.

Therefore, authorities at national, regional and local level want to increase the use of alternative transport modes ? such as walking, cycling and traveling by bus.The thesis intends to study if the Municipality of Umeå?s policies for sustainable development have led to an increased use of Public transportation. The use of public transport in Umeå is also compared with developments at national level, in order to see if there are differences in the level and trend.

This bachelor?s thesis report aims to investigate the problems that exist with the ticketing systems ofthe various regional Public transportation authorities, specifically with regards to inexperiencedtravellers and cross-county travel.This is done in part through a comprehensive survey for all of Sweden where both the regional publictransportation authorities and passengers were asked about their opinions, as well as a throughin-depth survey focused on the counties of Stockholm and Uppsala. The results of these surveys arethen compiled and analyzed to identify the biggest common problems.The tree biggest problems prove to be a complicated implementation, lack of availability and lack ofinformation. ABSTRACTDuring the last decades, environmental impacts have increased significantly, much due to the great traffic flows within cities. Therefore, to reduce these impacts and encourage a healthy way of living, it has in recent years become vital to generate safer and more sustainable and flexible modes of transportation. In order to do so, authorities and physical planners must work together to find viable solutions to incorporate in the infrastructure and offer alternative transport modes ? such as walking, cycling and Public transportation. The purpose of this thesis is to examine the development of the cycling infrastructure in the city of Västerås and whether it is possible to expand bicycle commuting alongside Public transportation. The thesis consequently aims to study how different physical planners within Västerås municipality work with traffic related questions.

The subject of this paper is the congestion tax in Stockholm, Sweden. The study has been conducted with the purpose to examine of how public attitudes towards congestion charging looks and the reason behind the attitude. And also to examine if there are any differences in attitudes between those living inside and outside the payment zones, between men and women and between car owners and those who do not own a car or have a driver's license.
